Affordable housing in Wokingham – appeal successDLP Planning has successfully secured detailed planning permission for the erection of 7 affordable flats at Sindlesham, near Reading, after an appeal to the Secretary of State.
The application for 2 blocks of flats was refused permission by Wokingham Borough Council for reasons of perceived impact upon neighbouring properties, inadequate car parking/access and inaccurate plans. DLP Planning successfully argued that the 2 buildings, designed by DLP Design, would not harm the amenities of neighbours, sufficient car parking (1 space per flat) was to be provided and the plans were indeed accurate. DLP Planning also negotiated away all financial contributions, so that a unilateral undertaking was only required in respect of the provision of the affordable housing.
After the site visit the inspector raised queries concerning the unilateral undertaking and Right to Buy legislation. DLP Planning successfully argued that the submitted undertaking complied with all relevant legal requirements and the appeal was allowed.
