Sheffield City Region, HS2 and Brexit

DLP attended the Estates Gazette ‘City Talks’ debate at Bramall Lane on 22nd September, which was held in the Sheffield City region for the first time.

A panel including LEP Board members Chris Scholey and Martin McKervey discussed the opportunities presented by HS2, the post-Brexit political landscape, devolution, and the development of the retail quarter. The debate heard how the Sheffield City Region just have to ‘get on and do it’ following the completion of the devolution deal, and needs to establish itself as a strong competitor to Manchester and Newcastle. The panel were in agreement that the Northern Powerhouse and HS2 and HS3 would enable Sheffield to be more confident in its offering and increase its ability to rival other northern cities.
